However, the\nreal pleasure of salt water pools comes from owning and maintaining them.\nRequiring less maintenance than chlorine pools, salt water pool owners report a\nmore enjoyable experience without the presence of as many chemicals to keep the\nwater sparkling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first misconception of salt water\npools is the \u201csalt\u201d aspect \u2013 it is barely noticeable and very mild. The salt\nlevel, or salinity, of a salt water pool is going to be about 1\/10 of the\nsalinity of the pacific ocean. The level of salt in the pool is minimal because\nonly very little is needed to keep it clean with a piece of equipment called a\n\u201csalt chlorine generator.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A salt chlorine generator will be\ninstalled with your pump equipment. Inside the salt chlorine generator is a\nseries of metallic grids with low voltage which converts the salt (Na+Cl) to\nlittle bubbles of pure chlorine and water (Cl+H2O). This generator will wear\ndown over time and the cell of metallic grids will need to be replaced every\n4-6 years, depending on usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are the benefits of owning a salt\nwater pool?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the common primary\nadvantages of a saltwater pool:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Gentle on skin and eyes \u2013 a primary reason for many owners or loved ones with sensitive skin<\/li><li>Clear, smooth water &#8211; the water feels\u00a0silky smooth\u00a0because of the salt.<\/li><li>Lower total cost of ownership &#8211; no longer have to hassle with big buckets of chlorine.<\/li><li>No chlorine smell \u2013 no chlorine\u00a0to burn your eyes or smell\u00a0when in pool.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are some concerns of owning a\nsalt water pool? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While most owners will share that\nowning a salt water pool is a no-brainer, there are several concerns to keep in\nmind when planning your backyard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Salt water generators require maintenance every few years ($500-1,500).<\/li><li>Easy to forget about water testing \u2013 chlorine levels can build up in a salt water pool and can damage equipment if not checked regularly.<\/li><li>Owning a salt water pool does not mean you can neglect maintenance \u2013 while there is less maintenance, it is not a \u2018<strong>set it and forget it<\/strong>\u2019 mentality \u2013 owners still must keep water chemistry      balanced.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are my next steps to get a salt\nwater pool?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide that a salt water pool\nis the best fit for backyard plan for outdoor living, Proscape wants to make\nsure you have all the information you need to make the right decision.
