Pool season is a delight. You wear your trunks, put that float in the pool and just bask in the sun.
However, with great fun, comes great responsibilities.
While pool season is a time to enjoy, even your swimming pool requires some tender love and care. So, what are the necessary steps which can help you maintain your pool all year round, no matter what season it is?
We bring you 10 precautionary measures which can help you maintain your pool without much hassle.
Keep a vigil eye on your pool
During winters, most pools are covered. Make sure that you regularly check under the cover for any insects, debris or anything else.
Moreover, ensure that the surface above the cover is clean and does not have any unnecessary weight on it.
Beware of the Fall leaves
If you have an automatic pool cleaner attached to your pool, make sure it is not clogged.
The fall season brings falling dry leaves, which can hamper the automatic pool cleaning system. Ensure that leaves, don’t get sucked up by the cleaner and it does not break down.
Protect the water
The water in your pool may become a breeding ground for microorganisms. While the rate of reproduction in microorganisms drops drastically during the winter months, it does not stop.
Adding some winter-based product with biocidal properties helps fight the unnecessary growth of microorganisms in the pool.
Clean the surfaces
The pool surface is the base of the pool. Instead of cleaning just the pool floor, make sure you clean the sidewalls, the ladder and the cramped space behind the ladder.
A weekly cleaning routine will save you the effort of cleaning the pool during the winter months, and will save you a lot of effort during spring and summer.
Beware of Freezing
If you live where it snows, make sure you are aware of freezing. The freezing weather can freeze the water in your plumbing equipment and pipes which might cost you dearly.
To avoid such a situation, make sure you keep the water level 4 to 6 inches below the skimmer in order to avoid this ordeal.
Enzymes for Non-Living Contamination
Non-organic contamination such as bird droppings, pollens or contaminants can seep in through your mesh cover during winter.
In order to combat this problem, use an enzyme to break it down. The enzyme can be poured from above the mesh and can even prevent the waterline ring that might occur during the winters.
Pay Attention to the Weather
If the autumn season in your area was mildly warm, it is suggested that more chlorine shall be added into the pool to avoid algae build-up.
Moreover, if it rained a lot during the season, most of your chemicals and chlorine might have diluted already. So, in order to avoid an algae build-up make sure you add a little extra dose of chemicals.
Check the Above Ground Cover Regularly
The cover above your pool is tied together using cables. Make sure that the cover is tightly put together using cables. If the cables aren’t rung tightly, it can make the cover fall into the pool making it useless.
Use an air pillow
An air pillow can work out to your own benefit. Adding an air pillow in your winter pool closing equipment list can save you a lot of effort when you reopen the pool during the spring.
Open the Pool Earlier
Make sure you open the pool at the earliest you are able to. Don’t wait for the weather to get warmer.
By opening the pool later, it not only leads to you missing out on the prime swimming season due to the cleaning, but the hot weather might also aggravate the algae build-up.
Maintaining your pool isn’t tough if you follow some simple steps all year round.
